Alexa Sadowsky, LMFT

Owner, Licensed Therapist

Welcome to my page! You should already be proud of yourself for taking this step. Therapy is not easy as it requires putting your trust into a stranger. My goal is to help provide feelings of comfort, trust, and safety. Whether a minor, adult, couple or family, I am here to listen without judgment or a personal agenda, and guide you to the best of my ability. It is my duty to be professional, ethical, and most importantly supportive in this courageous journey.

I specialize specifically in Anxiety, Depression, and Couples conflict. What this means is:

I can help with quieting that negative, inner dialogue that leads you to doubt yourself, question your self-worth, and avoid change.

For the adults and minors struggling to regulate and express their emotions effectively, I can help you gain insight and understanding of why you feel the way you do and how to better cope with and control those emotions that you feel you have no control over.

With Children, traditional talk therapy is an unfair expectation for someone so young. Children would rather explore the office than talk about things they didn’t understand. I couldn’t ask a five-year-old to identify the negative cognitions which fueled their anxiety or depression. Nor could I expect an eight-year-old to talk through the emotional impact of their parents’ divorce or lets say bullying. Play therapy is a therapeutic modality meeting children at their level to bring about change and healing. Rather than expecting children to verbally engage in sessions, the act of play can achieve balance and ability to excel at school, home, and in life.

To the couple that feel they have poor or no communication, and do not feel heard, I can help you both gain insight into where your communication falls short. You will be taught effective, healthy communication skills that will allow you to succeed in your relationship. Communication is one of the foundations of a relationship, so once you master this, we can then address the lack of emotional connectivity, lack of intimacy and affection, and/or other areas of conflict affecting the relationship.

How do I do this?!

I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy. CBT aims to show you how your thinking affects your mood. It teaches you to think in a less negative way about yourself and your life. It is an unhealthy habit, and like any other habit, it can be broken. Narrative Therapy helps you become and embrace being an expert in your own life. Interactions give meaning to those experiences and they, in turn, influence how you see yourself and the world. Every person’s story is unique to themselves, and I am here to help you find that comfort within yourself.

Specifically for my couples, I incorporate the above mentioned, but focus mostly on The Gottman Method. You will learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions that will also help to repair past and present hurts. You will learn how to effectively communicate, increase closeness and intimacy to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes which enhance the couple’s shared goals.
